The Prienai region is located in the South of Lithuania. The natural environment is the greatest treasure in the region, which is why the greater part of the territory belongs to the Nemunas Bends Regional Park, the aim of which to preserve scenic valleys, fascinating loops of the river and the surrounding forests.

The Prienai region covers 1 141 square kilometers and has a population of 27 150 inhabitants. The Prienai region is divided into 10 rural government units – Neighborhoods.
The town of Prienai (with population of 8 848 inhabitants) covers both sides of the Nemunas River. The greater part of the town stretches along the left bank and the smaller one lies on the right bank. Prienai is at the juncture of very important routs connecting the two mayor towns of Lithuania: Vilnius (100 km.) and Kaunas (30km.). A variety of service organizations, wood or timber processing, sewing, construction enterprises form the main branches of a local economy. The clothing and wood industries are the largest exporters in the region. Pociunai avia-tourism center represents our national aviation: Joint Stock Company „Sport Aviation“ design, build, test and repair glider-planes; Closed Joint Stock company „Termikas“ fulfill micro-plane repair works; Kaunas County Sport Aviation Club provide with air-taxi service; Parachutist Club with possibility to enjoy parachute jumps.
There are more than 700 Individual enterprises and Closed Joint Stock Companies, 42 State Budget and other organizations in Prienai region. 66 780 ha (out of 114 100 ha) is cultivated land. Small farms, dominate in the region. The soil consists mainly of a mixture of sand and clay and about 27% of the region is covered in forests. Hundred of years of cultural heritage is preserved in the historical and archeological monuments (nearly 150). Several notable people lived and studied in Prienai region. Matas Salcius – a writer and traveler; Antanas Maceina – Catholic philosopher; Jonas Kazlauskas – a linguist professor; Justinas Marcinkevicius – a poet are among them.
